The Mandalorian and Grogu are coming to Batuu

In 2019, Star Wars fans were introduced to a mysterious Mandalorian Bounty Hunter on the new Disney+ streaming service. While the armored protagonist tracked down hardened criminals and miscreants at the start of the first episode, hearts were immediately won over when “Baby Yoda” appeared on screens for the first time, an adorable animatronic brought to life who shared the same unnamed race as Jedi Master Yoda. Referred to only as The Child, the loveable Force Sensitive character eventually had his name (Grogu) revealed by Rosario Dawson’s character Ahsoka Tano in the series’ second season.

At D23 in September, panel guests got an exclusive early look at the Mandalorian and Grogu before they arrive at Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge. Dressed in Beskar armor and carrying Grogu in a satchel to keep him safely hidden from the First Order, the Mandalorian (Din Djarin) will be patrolling the streets of Batuu this November.

What is the Batuu Bounty Hunt?

Disneyland’s MagicBands will come with a variety of features, but one of them is a game guests can play while visiting Galaxy’s Edge. Bounty Hunters wishing to join the Bounty Hunter’s Guild can retrieve a series of bounties from around Batuu and report back to the Guild Master to receive credits for the bounty.

bountyscanTo get started, approach the bounty board and tap your MagicBand+ to the sensor panel to receive your first bounty. You’ll receive instructions and the profile picture of the target. Their name and the number of credits you’ll receive for tracking them down will appear on the screen. (You’ll receive instructions and an update to your MagicBand on the first attempt)

  • The band will begin to vibrate and pulse in a variety of colors. Red if you’re too far from the target, Green if you’re headed in the right direction, and Purple if you’ve managed to uncover the hiding place of your target.
  • Use the official Disneyland app to scan doors or other hiding places to reveal the heat signature of your bounty and update your MagicBand.

The last step is to return to the Guild Master’s door to turn in your bounties and receive your credits. Only when you’ve captured a significant number of bounties can you call yourself an official member of the Bounty Hunter’s Guild. Good hunting!
