10 Things You Should Bring to Disneyland

what to pack

It’s essential to pack the best gear before your trip to Disneyland.

We’ve compiled a helpful list of things to bring to the park to ensure your vacation is magical and not miserable. If you’re traveling with kids, check out our article for helpful tips on navigating the park with your little ones here.

Check the weather. During a typical summer in Anaheim, expect it to be hot during the day (85-90 degrees). On the other hand, rain and chilly nights are not uncommon during the fall and winter months.

Bring a bag or backpack. Bring a medium-sized backpack that fits your belongings. It should fit comfortably between your feet and be easily accessible for going through security.

Check your wallet. Ensure you have your state-issued ID, physical park tickets, hotel keys, and any necessary travel documents.

Fill a plastic water bottle. Hydro Flasks or Swell Bottles are examples of double-layered containers that won’t “sweat” as ice melts, avoiding getting items wet.

What Should I Bring to Disneyland?

  • Protect yourself with sunblock. Dermatologists recommend using a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, which blocks 97 percent of the sun’s UVB rays.
  • Wear hats and sunglasses. Keeping your face protected from the glaring California sun is very important.
  • Use chapstick or lip balm. Just like your hands, your lips can chap if you don’t drink enough water. Brands infused with sunscreen will help prevent sunburn on your lips.
  • Pack tissues and hand wipes. Be sure to bring a small pack of Kleenex tissues or wet wipes for yourself or your children.
  • Wear comfortable (broken-in) walking shoes. Expect to be waiting in long lines and cover a lot of ground in one day. We don’t recommend heels, sandals, or flip-flops.
  • Bring extra layers of clothing. The weather can vary dramatically depending on the time of year you’re visiting. Use ponchos instead of umbrellas during the rainy season.

Don’t Forget to Bring These

  • You’ll need your camera and phone. Decide whether you’ll be using your phone’s camera or bringing one with you. Double-check the camera’s settings and know how to turn off the flash.
  • Battery Packs are game-changers. If you’re going to take pictures or videos with your phone, your devices will start to run low on power. There are plenty of good battery chargers on the market today.
  • Have ZIPLOC bags of all sizes. They help preserve leftover food and snacks. Furthermore, they’re useful for protecting things you don’t want to get wet on water rides.

And most importantly…

  • Cash or debit/credit card: There are ATMs throughout the Disneyland Resort where you can withdraw cash. On the other hand, you shouldn’t need them if you plan on using a credit or debit card.

Keep in mind: Cash withdrawals usually require a fee. It’s good practice to let your credit card provider know that you are about to go on a vacation and that charges abroad are expected.
