Once upon a time, you would approach an attraction kiosk, scan your Disneyland ticket, and receive a free FastPass with a return time to ride the attraction. Before the closure of Disneyland and California Adventure, you could purchase a MaxPass. The Disneyland MaxPass was an additional service for guests with two great perks. The first offered unlimited downloads of your PhotoPass pictures. The second was booking and redeeming FastPass reservations on your mobile device using the Disneyland app. However, gone is the FastPass, and here are Genie+ and Lightning Lanes.
While the approval rate of this feature is on the fence among Disneyland fanatics, we’re breaking down the new add-on features now available on the official Disneyland app.
What are Genie and Genie Plus?
The Genie add-on is available within the official Disneyland App on iOS and Android devices. Guests can also use Disney Genie to join virtual queues, see attraction wait times, mobile order food, make reservations at restaurants, and more. Disney Genie+ will allow guests to snag the next available entry time at 19 attractions at Disneyland for a one-time pre-order price per day of $25. Those include Smugglers Run, Big Thunder Mountain, and the Haunted Mansion.Guests planning their arrival to the theme parks ahead of time can purchase Genie+ with their vacation packages from the Disneyland website or Authorized Travel Agents, for $25. Same-day purchases by all other guests may experience a fluctuation in price based on the day of the week or demand.
What’s New: The Genie+ service is subject to availability and may not be available for same-day purchase.
How Do Lightning Lanes Work?
For attractions not included in Genie+, guests can purchase additional Lightning Lanes. There’s a limit of two of these Lighting Lanes per day. Guests will need to wait until the day of their visit to purchase Lightning Lane entry, including Disney Resort guests and Magic Key holders. Pricing will fluctuate based on the day of the week and attendance.
Will I be required to purchase Genie+ or Lightning Lanes?
No. As always, you can wait in a standby line for your favorite attractions free of charge.
How do I apply for a DAS Pass with Genie?

Which Rides Will Be Included With Genie Plus?
- Disneyland has 12 Genie+ attractions: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones Adventure, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Splash Mountain, Star Tours, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, It’s a Small World, Autopia, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin (currently closed).
- California Adventure has 8 Genie+ attractions: Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, Incredicoaster, Soarin’ Around the World, Toy Story Midway Mania, Grizzly River Run, Monsters Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue, Goofy’s Sky School, and Webslingers: A Spider-Man Adventure.
