When you visit Disneyland, it’s hard to resist buying a churro, popcorn, cotton candy, and all Disney confections shaped like Mickey Mouse. But what do you do if you or your family members can’t eat all of those delicious treats? Eating healthy foods is essential, especially while traveling. Fortunately, Disney has made it easier to choose a healthy meal for anyone with special dietary needs.
The Key to Eating Healthy Food At Disneyland
Disneyland has picnic areas designated for enjoying packed lunches and snacks. In addition, food and beverages are allowed into the park and help lower the cost of expensive meals for guests traveling on a budget.
What you can’t bring in: Hard coolers are not allowed in the park. Soft coolers are admissible and must be only lunch-bag-sized. Glass bottles are not allowed at Disneyland or California Adventure.
The Main Street Market St. Fruit Cart
You can find some delicious morning and afternoon snack options on Main Street. The Market St. Fruit Cart has small bags of chips, dried fruit, fresh fruit, and cold drinks. If you’ve brought personal water bottles, most restaurants will give you a free cup of ice to chill your beverages or pour in your water bottle. You can find other market kiosks in Critter Country, Fantasyland, Adventureland, and Tomorrowland. If you’re park hopping, you can shop at Mortimer’s Market in California Adventure.
The Bengal Barbecue in Adventureland
Not only does the food smell amazing in Adventureland, but they also have very healthy food options for those who are on low-calorie or vegan diets. There are beef, chicken, veggie skewers, bacon-wrapped asparagus, and rice bowls. If you ask for the sauce on the side (or no sauce), you can shed a few more calories from your meal. The prices are incredibly reasonable for the skewers, and they’re delicious!
Order a Salad Instead
Several restaurants offer delicious entrees and side salads in the park. The Galactic Grill and Alien Pizza Planet have refreshing salads if you want to skip the cheeseburger and pizzas. The River Belle Terrace also offers a House Chopped Salad, Garden Salad, and the Terrace Wedge made with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, cheese crumbles, and onions. You can add grilled chicken, shrimp, brisket, or BBQ tofu to some of the entree salads offered at park restaurants.
For Those Traveling to a Galaxy Far, Far Away
Several unique (and bizarre) healthy food items are available at the Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo restaurant and Ronto Roasters. Galaxy’s Edge offers a selection of vegetarian and vegan options, along with smaller portions for your younglings. You can find more of these options in our article Eating vegan at Disneyland. For guests who are worried about dairy products, blue and green milk and Dole Whips from Adventureland are dairy-free.
Where to Find Healthy Food if You’re Park Hopping
California Adventure also has a healthy selection of foods. The recently added Avengers Campus partnered with Impossible™ to provide delicious, vegan meal options at Pym’s Test Kitchen and kiosks. Check out our Top Five California Adventure Restaurants.
