If you’ve had your fair share of battles against a Jedi or Sith and your lightsaber is starting to look a bit weathered, you might consider a technique to breathe some new life into your elegant weapon for a more civilized age. Again, we’ve been given permission by the creator of the YouTube channel StarWars IRL to feature a walkthrough of the process of modifying your lightsaber from Savi’s Workshop in Galaxy’s Edge.
Please proceed with caution prior to your build.
IMPORTANT: Read this before you start any modifications
Any changes or damages to the hilt or blade could result in violating any existing warranty with Disney. All safety precautions should be taken when using power tools or sharp handheld tools and careful consideration must be made before altering the lightsaber in any way. You do so at your own risk.
What Will I Need for the Lightsaber Modification?
You’ll need: A screwdriver, drill, hacksaw, a bar clamp, and your lightsaber
- Carefully disassemble the black attachment mechanism at the base of the lightsaber’s blade
- Gently empty the contents of your Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber blade
- If necessary, cut the new blade to match the length of your Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber
- Drill the holes and cutouts into the new lightsaber blade
- Slowly place the LED strip back into its foam casing and ease it back into place in the blade
- Reassemble the base of the lightsaber blade
- Place the lightsaber blade back into your hilt and turn it on
What happened after the modification?
With the Saberforge blade mounted into a hilt from Savi’s Workshop, you’d think you just forged the perfect dueling blade. We followed up with our friend at StarWars IRL to see how the modification went. Even after modifying the lightsaber, heavy dueling with the blade is not recommended. Any damage sustained to a modified lightsaber or excessive force will not be refundable. You can check out our article referring to the durability of an unmodified Savi’s Lightsaber
