Disneyland, the “Happiest Place on Earth,” is about to get even happier. In a significant show of support, the city council of Anaheim unanimously approved DisneylandForward with a vote of 7-0. This marks the beginning of a new era for the Disneyland Resort, a project that stands as a testament to Disney’s commitment to innovation, creativity, and storytelling. It promises to bring new, exciting experiences for guests of all ages.
What is DisneylandForward?
DisneylandForward is an approved development plan for land Disney already owns around its Anaheim theme parks. It’s a multiyear public planning effort to update Disneyland Resort’s existing development approvals, allowing Disney to make meaningful investments in Anaheim for decades.
The plans allow for theme park attractions alongside hotels on the west side of Disneyland Drive and theme park attractions alongside new shopping, dining, and entertainment to the southeast on what is today the Toy Story Parking Area. DisneylandForward also calls for additional and new parking east and north of the theme parks and potential bridges across Harbor Boulevard and Disneyland Drive.
The Economic Impact of DisneylandForward
DisneylandForward is not just a development plan, but a significant investment in the resort and the city of Anaheim. Disney will invest a proposed $1.9 billion in the resort in the first ten years. According to Cal State Fullerton’s economic impact study, each $1 billion Disney invests is projected to increase revenues for Anaheim by about $15 million annually. This substantial boost in revenue will help fund necessary community services, including additional fire and police, parks, and libraries.
DisneylandForward is not just an investment in the resort, but also in the city of Anaheim. It includes a unique benefits package specifically designed for Anaheim residents. Disney has committed to providing $30 million for affordable housing, $8 million for city parks, $85 million in traffic improvements and pedestrian safety, and continued investment in workforce development programs. It’s estimated that DisneylandForward will bring over 4,500 operational jobs to Disneyland Resort and nearly 9,000 construction jobs within the first ten years.
The Future of Disneyland Resort
At DisneylandToday.net, we’ve always believed that the Disneyland Resort is Southern California’s ultimate multi-day vacation destination. The two parks have been eagerly awaiting significant updates since the addition of Disney California Adventure Park, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, and Downtown Disney District in 2001. With the approval of DisneylandForward, the resort is poised to embark on a new era of innovation, creativity, and storytelling, bringing a wave of new, thrilling experiences for guests.
The future of Disneyland Resort is limitless, and we are excited to witness the next chapter of Disney magic. As Walt Disney once said, “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” This spirit of endless possibilities and constant evolution is at the heart of DisneylandForward, and we can’t wait to share more updates with you.
